Community Involvement

As a Capital Region native now raising my own family here, I recognize the importance of contributing to the health and growth of this community, and hope my efforts encourage others to give.

Supporting Education

I enjoy spending time in the classroom at my alma matter, Siena College, acting as a mentor and role model to students, both professionally and philanthropically. The college has named a student townhouse “Hungershafer”, in recognition of our family’s financial contributions.

I also enjoy speaking to students at The College of Saint Rose, and have been a volunteer with Junior Achievement for 13 years; holding weekly classes to teach 7th graders how to make smart-money decisions, by sharing my expertise in economics and finances.

I have been building a new relationship with the Chinese Community Center (CCC) of Capital District of New York. My sponsorship will help support exceptional Chinese School students with scholarships, while I also host finance management educational seminars for parents.

Most recently, I have offered my financial support towards The Massry Family Children’s Emergency Center at Albany Medical Center. Along with my wife Marisa and son Jack, we recently presented a $50,000 donation for the project, which is now the region’s only pediatric emergency department. As part of the presentation, my family also recognized our friend, Dr. H. Alexander Nagle, for his commitment and care for patients.

In 2018, I was honored to join the Board of Directors for Folds of Honor New York. Of the one million-plus dependents adversely affected by deployments, nearly 9 out of 10 do not qualify for federal scholarship assistance. Since 2007, Folds of Honor has carried forth this singular, noble mission. To close the gap, providing educational support to spouses and children of America’s fallen and disabled service members.

Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation

Northwestern Mutual has a long-standing partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to help find a cure for pediatric cancer. My team and our office proudly support these efforts, participating in a number of fundraising events throughout the year. You can learn more about the organization and how you can help, here: https://www.alexslemonade.org/mypage/1697708

I am also a supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, as well as the Center for Disability Services, where Northwestern Mutual – The Tronco Financial Group, is the presenting sponsor of their annual fundraising event: An Aficionado Experience. I have been lucky to meet former New York Yankees Bernie Williams and Nick Swisher at these events.
